About

About Me:

I’m a Systems Administrator and specialize in Linux/Unix operating systems.  I started into this field learning about Computer Aided Design and studied quite a bit in college about 3D modeling and design using programs such as AutoCAD and 3DStudio Max.

When I took my first job as a CAD designer for a Civil Engineering firm I found myself in a position where I was not only doing CAD design but also maintaining the network and overall infrastructure.  Since I had been playing with computer systems since my father had first brought a Commodore 64 home around 1988 I was always surrounded by technology but never really comprehended how much I actually understood technology until I started applying my knowledge to the workplace. Cost was always a problem so I was always trying to find innovative ways using Open Source solutions to solve common problems.

After my role shifted from CAD designer to more of a Systems Administration role I started studying Linux, UNIX, BSD, and Windows much more deeply than I had in the past. I then started my own IT consulting business and took on a few small clients who I still provide services to this day. Since my role shifted at the Civil Engineering firm I took a job as a Jr. Systems Administrator at a large bankruptcy firm. I slowly made my way from a Jr. Systems Administrator to a Sr. Systems Administrator sharing the responsibilities with another Sr.

The beauty of my current place of employment is the embrace of Open Source and the use of such a mix of systems. On any given day you can find me configuring SANs, setting up VLANS, configuring custom PF rules on OpenBSD, maintaining JBOSS on Solaris, optimizing Informix, setting up redundant ESXi servers, maintaining Active Directory, leveraging Linux and everything far and in between.

I am still currently employed with the bankruptcy firm and also provide IT services to 3 small firms after hours. I find myself very busy balancing home and business, but I have always been surrounded by technology and that’s the way I like it.

About Computerglitch:

Computerglitch has served many purposes for me and will continue to do so.  In its very early years I used it to learn about coding in Perl and PHP. I then started dabbling with using MySQL for the backend of all my pages.  Originally Computerglitch was hosted from Slackware Linux, this was before installing a LAMP server was child’s play, and it involved a lot of customization and compiling. Over the years Computerglitch has been on FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Linux, and even Windows.

Computerglitch has always served as a place for me to centralize my ideas and research over the years, it has changed dramatically over time and I’m sure will continue to do so.  As long as I’m researching new technology and finding innovative ways to solve complex problems using Open Source, Computerglitch will stand by my side.
